This painting was begun on location at Bear Rocks, in the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area. The view is from the Allegheny Front looking east into the sunrise. The wind which sculpts the spruce trees (locally referred to as Flag Pines) force me to give up the vibrating struggles, or become a hang glider pilot. The painting was completed in the studio. This is a place which is very special. One where many significant experiences have occurred. I have painted here with each of my children and shared love and glimpsed eternity. This lonely, windswept land which produces unique weather is one of renewal, privacy and excitement. Many artists have their special place, this is mine.
